New Images for My Magazine

I've took some more images to use on my magazine as my own images where not suitable for my magazine. I retook my images with another new model to ensure a different look of my magazine. my old images can be used for my contents page for feature stories.

 I wanted a background on my new images as the first lot of photos didn't look the best with a white background and made my first draft look like a poster rather than a magazine, I took the images outside on a brick wall to give the indie vibe. I like these two images as the wind is blowing hew hair from her face and looks posed. 

Again I photographed her against the wall and the we ran into a problem when taking the images as the wind picked up and it became harder to control the direction of her hair and ended up with the hair across her face.

 After running into this problem I then decided to take the picture of the brick wall and go take the next lot of images in the green room at college, I will use the image of the brick wall to place any other images over the top by using Photoshop and still get the desired look I want. 

 These two images are similar other than I changed the shot type from a medium long shot to a medium shot to give two different types of photos, I like these two images and would use them in my magazine as a front cover or double page spread image

 These two images are similar again and are the same shot but with different lighting, I like the images as the red lipstick stands out.

 Again these images show two different types of framing and I would use them for my magazine 

 The image on the left isn't serious and wouldn't use for my magazine, the image on the left is something i would consider using 

 We used a prop from the green room of sunglasses to give a different look, the image on the right is something I would consider using for my magazine

 Again we used the sunglasses and used different framing types to structure the image and give a different look

 I decided to use a prop of a guitar to give the music vibe of my magazine, this makes the model look involved with the music scene. I like the image on the right and would use it in my magazine.

 The image on the left is an image i would use for my magazine with editing on Photoshop to ensure the lighting is correct the image on the right however isn't suitable as it is not serious.

 These two images are not suitable for my magazine the lighting and the positioning of the prop doesn't look genuine for my magazine 

 I wouldn't use these images as the positioning and the way the model is stood is not suitable nor is it a image I like to use for my magazine.

These two images are not something i would use on my magazine as the images are dark and not serious and the image on the right shows her hiding behind the guitar rather than looking comfortable 

Again these images are not serious and I wouldn't use them on my magazine

I like these two images as the look different and make the model look in contact with the audience and show her love for music

I particularly like the image on the left as my model  is positioned in the framing correct and has a serious face which I wanted, I don't like the image on the right as the model isn't looking at the camera

 I like these two images and would possibly use the in my magazine the positioning is correct and gives an indie feel 

 The image on the left is not serious and something I wouldn't use in my magazine as it gives a comedy feel rather than a music magazine. The image on the right i would use as it is positioned nicely and the model is looking at the camera

I like these two photos and would use them in my magazine as the positioning and the prop is suitably posed and looks like a photo you would see in a music magazine

Existing Double Page Spread Research

I have looked at excising magazine double page spread to find aspect which I can transfer onto my own magazine. 

 

In all most every NME magazine double page spread they have the image on the left hand side with the text on the right. I like the pull quote and the stand first on the page as it is laid out in a smart but formal format. 

 I like the structure of this double page spread and also the stand first as it is positioned in a way to draw the reader in. 

The colours on this page stand out with the black and white image and also stands out against the white page. 

The pull quote stands out on the page and tells you about the text, I like this and I will transfer this onto my own magazine.

Print Screen Process of Making My Contents Page

 1. I added my own 3 images onto a blank document in Photoshop, I made my main story which is on my front cover the centre and larger image on the page. the two other images I have made smaller to fit under the main image to ensure they look like they belong on the page. I have chosen images which fit with my magazine music genre and ensure it appeals to my target audience. I opened the images onto Photoshop initially and then transferred them onto the main document

 2. I added the mast head by using the rectangle tool on Photoshop and creating a rectangle to add my text onto as seen in NME. I used the colour black to make my mast head stand out and to break up the page. I added 'INSIDE THIS MONTH' to fit along side NME which is an existing indie magazine I wanted to represent. I put the text in white rather than red to stand out as the black and white are opposites of each other. I also added the issue date to stick with conventions of a contents/magazine. 

 3. I then proceeded into adding page numbers onto the images, they are all the same size of a 110 as this size wasn't too big or overpowering. I put them in red to stand out amongst the images and be evident to the reader which page is relevant to the images. 

 4. I used the rectangle tool again to create somewhere to put my sub headings for my contents pages, I also used the line tool to create a boarder around my images to break them up rather than looking like one image. 

5. I used an image from Google for the Twitter logo to create a social media option on my contents page. I saved the image from Google and transferred it onto my main documents and used the transform tool to fit it correctly in the bottom rectangular box. 

6.  I then added text using the text tool which says 'Follow us on Twitter @PhoenixMag' this incorporates social media within my magazine to connect with the reader. 

7. Again I used the rectangle tool to add another box for my sub headings for a conventional contents page to catch the readers eye rather than having the text looking like a lot of reading it breaks up the text. 

8. I added text onto my images to create the pull quotes and to add a insight into the story. I used the same text as I felt this looked best rather than a mixture of text types. I used different colours depending on the position of the text as not all colours fit on the image as some fade into the background. 

9. I liked the idea of NME using a 'gig guide' in an arrow to break the page up so I am going to recreate it for my own magazine. I used the shape tool on Photoshop and created a red arrow on my page. 

10. I added text saying 'No1 gig guide' and the page number to incise the reader, the gig guide also relates to my Leeds Fest story and my plug on my magazine and they relate to my music genre also.

11. I used the text tool to then add the subheading titles onto the rectangles I have created. I used a different text to my mast head to make sure it didn't merge into each other. I used white to stand out on the page. 

 12. I wanted to create an album review section as this is iconic in music magazines and rather than using text I chose to use images of the albums to catch the readers eye. I transferred the images (which are from Google) on to the document and positioned them in the correct size so they matched. I chose well know artists with latest albums.

 13. I added page numbers onto the album covers to ensure my reader can find the pages or the images will be irrelevant. They are the same size as the other page numbers to continue continuity  

 14. I added my feature story page numbers and used a smaller font size to ensure I fit all of my feature stories within the box and not to look to big within the box. 

15. I added the title 'Jamie-T' which is a feature from my front cover onto the contents to ensure it is relevant. I used the same font as my front cover so it relates and ties in my stories together

16. I transferred the Arctic Monkeys image from my front cover onto the contents to try and bring my front cover and contents together. I didn't like the look of the image as it took up too much room with the feature section. 

17. I added the Arctic Monkey title using Photoshop text and positioned it with it's pull quote underneath so my reader knows what the story is about

 18. I proceeded in adding my two other smaller feature stories onto the page using the text tool an ensuring the title is bigger than the pull quote to draw the reader into the stories, I used different text fonts to break up the text so it didn't look like block text and make it look ascetically pleasing.

19. I added a further image from Google onto my contents to fit with the Alt-J story, The image I was going to originally use on the album review section but there wasn't enough room. I have created a feature story relating to their album and have decided to use this image still but use it next to the feature story. 

20. I then positioned the feature stories in a equal manner and to ensure they are all the correct size and is easy to read by the reader. 

CONTENTS PAGE

Here is my final product I like the look of the outcome but I feel it needs more work also. The colour scheme corresponds to my front cover to ensure continuity is not broken, The images represnt my music genre 'indie rock'. I would add more stories into the contents and maybe change the layout to look more ascetically pleasing to the eye.
